Eat like this! Study: 100% chocolate can suppress appetite

It's no secret that if you want to lose weight you have to eat less. However, the difficulty lies in reducing appetite. However, there are currently two solutions: endure the hunger for the first few days and know that you will gradually stop feeling hungry. However, this requires a firm will to resist all the temptations around you; or to develop habits that you can stick to and slowly adapt to a low-calorie daily diet. Here, I would like to give you some suggestions on snacks. You will see results soon.

The benefits of 100% pure chocolate

If you have problems controlling impulsive eating, here's a very simple experiment you can try. When you start to crave greasy, sweet and salty food and are ready to gain 1 kg in 5 minutes, chew 2 to 4 small pieces of pure chocolate first, and decide in your mind that you will eat a lot after the chocolate is swallowed. You will notice the effects immediately. Once you consume dark chocolate, the cravings for food will stop and you won't feel any depression or bad feelings.

Recent scientific research has proven that the mechanism is physiological rather than psychological—a different answer than we initially thought. Dutch researchers had volunteers inhale chocolate aroma and then eat 30 grams of dark chocolate. As a result, they observed a significant decrease in the subjects' appetite. They also measured levels of hormones, such as growth hormone, in the blood.

Growth hormone is a hormone known for initiating appetite. When the subjects are hungry, growth hormone levels will rise, and after a meal they will fall. The researchers then observed that consuming 30 grams of dark chocolate caused a significant drop in growth hormone and a simultaneous drop in appetite.

The positive benefits of dark chocolate don’t end there. A recent study published in the United States by Professor Beatrice Golomb (Golomb et al., 2012) showed that people who regularly eat dark chocolate are surprisingly thinner than those who do not eat dark chocolate.

And here lies the contradiction: although pure dark chocolate contains 540 calories per 100 grams, in addition to temporarily relieving hunger, it also has the function of reducing weight. The researchers observed that people who ate dark chocolate had a lower BMI than those who did not eat dark chocolate.

According to a study of 1,000 men and women with an average age of 57, the best results were achieved when dark chocolate was consumed in moderation every day - up to 30 grams, not in large quantities every week or month. For now, researchers have only observed the phenomenon and have not yet understood the relevant physiological mechanisms.

Or it could be the stress-relieving properties of chocolate that temper the urge to eat, especially since chocolate is known to contain polyphenols, organic molecules that have antioxidant properties. According to a German study, eating two squares of dark chocolate every day can lower blood pressure: systolic blood pressure can be reduced by 3mmHg and diastolic blood pressure can be reduced by 2mmHg. Because chocolate can help blood flow smoothly, thereby improving the softness of blood vessels.

Perhaps we can come up with another explanation for the famous "French paradox" (the fact that the French eat a high-fat diet but have a cardiovascular disease rate that is twice as low as that of Americans): in addition to the red wine consumed with meals, dark chocolate is a contributing factor to this phenomenon. In fact, France is the country with the highest consumption of dark chocolate in the world, 6 times that of any other country.

We can easily find dark chocolate in supermarkets, but please note that the standards for the purity of chocolate cannot be lowered. I said, it has to be 100% pure chocolate, not 85% or 90% pure chocolate, otherwise the results will be different. You can put a few pieces in your bag, handbag, office, or home, and eat a few pieces in moderation whenever you feel the urge to eat...
