Don’t eat bananas wrong! Eating too many ripe bananas with black spots can cause obesity

There is a saying on the Internet: "'Green bananas' with slightly green skin and not yet fully ripe have a lower sugar content; but 'ripe bananas' that have already grown black spots are higher in calories and sugar, and therefore eating them can easily make you fat." Is this really true? Nutrition experts point out that the total calories and carbohydrates of the two are actually the same, but "green bananas" do have more starch and less sugar. Eating them before meals can increase satiety and help lose weight.

Many people love to eat bananas, but the sugar content ingested from eating "raw bananas" and "ripe bananas" is different.

Why do black spots appear on banana skin?

Bananas have a sweet and dense taste, but they are high in calories and sugar, so many people dare not eat them when trying to lose weight. In fact, it also depends on what kind of bananas people eat. After bananas have been stored for a long time, black spots will begin to appear on the skin. This is because the carotenoids in the bananas are acted upon by enzymes, causing oxidation and a darker color.

Black-spotted bananas are high in sugar and eating too much can make you fat

Wang Jinkun, professor of the Department of Nutrition at Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, pointed out that if you eat this overripe black-spotted banana, much of the original starch has been converted into monosaccharides and disaccharides, which means the sugar content is higher, so it tastes sweeter. Although ripe bananas are more delicious, they have a higher sugar content and glycemic index (GI). After eating them, the sugar is easily absorbed and blood sugar is easily increased, so they are more likely to make you fat.

Although ripe bananas with black spots have the same calories as unripe bananas, they have a higher sugar content.

Raw bananas are low in sugar and can help you feel fuller if eaten before meals

As for unripe green bananas, since they are high in starch and low in sugar, the human body digests and absorbs them more slowly, which can increase the feeling of fullness. The glycemic index is also relatively low, and it is not easy to cause blood sugar to rise in a short period of time. Therefore, eating raw bananas in moderation before meals can help you lose weight. However, Professor Wang Jinkun also reminded that raw bananas taste very green and astringent and are not easy to swallow; moreover, if you want to lose weight, you must also make other dietary adjustments and you cannot achieve your goal by just eating raw bananas.

If you want to achieve the sleep-inducing effect, it is recommended to ingest the green banana peel instead of the banana flesh.

Banana dietary fiber helps with bowel movements and high potassium helps fight inflammation

In fact, although the bananas that ordinary people eat are high in sugar and calories, they also contain a variety of nutrients. Bananas are rich in dietary fiber and potassium. The former can promote smooth bowel movements, while the latter helps fight inflammation and cancer. However, if you have poor kidney function, it is not suitable to consume foods with too high potassium content.

Drinking green banana peel + milk in the afternoon can help you sleep at night

In addition, many people like to eat bananas after dinner, hoping that it can help them fall asleep. However, Professor Wang Jinkun pointed out that if you want to achieve a sleep-inducing effect, eating banana flesh may not be of much use. He recommends eating the green banana peel to absorb the serotonin precursor "5-HT" in it to help synthesize serotonin, so as to achieve the purpose of calming the mind and relaxing.

People are advised to take the peel of a medium-sized green banana, wash and cut it into pieces, add 200 to 300c.c. of milk, put it into a juicer and blend it into a paste-like "banana peel milk". Drink it around 2 or 3 pm, and it will help you fall asleep at around 9 pm.

Professor Wang Jinkun pointed out that the ingredients in banana peels can be quickly converted into serotonin and have a long duration of action. If you wait until before bedtime to take it, the serotonin concentration will reach its peak immediately, which can easily affect your sleep. If consumed in the afternoon, serotonin will reach a relatively balanced concentration by the evening, which can help you sleep.
