Coca-Cola's new ad calls for weight loss, draws criticism

The New York Daily News reported that the two-minute Coca-Cola advertisement called "Coming Together" pointed out that after more than 100 years, Coca-Cola, now as the leader in the beverage industry, hopes to share everyone's concern about obesity and launched the slogan "All calories count."

This is the first time that Coca-Cola has publicly raised concerns about the issue of obesity in a television commercial. However, the video sparked criticism from netizens shortly after it was circulated on the Internet. They believed that as a company that produces sugary soda drinks, Coca-Cola was trying to shirk responsibility. The Harvard School of Public Health criticized Coca-Cola for focusing on "all foods may be the main cause of obesity" in an attempt to downplay the idea that sugary soda is the cause of obesity among the American people and to remove the public's wariness of soda.

In addition, Harold Goldstein, CEO of the California Center for Public Health Initiatives, also said that if Coca-Cola really wants people to drink less sugary soda, it should raise the price of sugary soda to be higher than other low-sugar or zero-calorie drinks, rather than spending millions of dollars on advertising videos that do nothing to fight obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.
