Want to live a long and healthy life? Scientists: Just eat less!

In this age of advanced medical care, it is no longer difficult to live a healthy and long life, but scientists have discovered that if you can just suppress your appetite for a while, you can extend your life by several years. The Independent reported on the 3rd that scholars from University College London who specialize in the health of the elderly have put forward an interesting insight, believing that if middle-aged and elderly people eat 40% less on average, they will have the opportunity to live 10 to 20 years longer.

Instead of relying on drugs to maintain health and longevity, American scientists suggest that eating less and restraining your appetite for a while can prolong your life.

Dr. Matthew Piper, who led the study, said they identified key "aging genes" in experimental mice and fruit flies. By changing diet and reducing intake, they can delay the effects of aging genes and increase lifespan. Researchers found that when the food intake of laboratory mice was reduced to only 60% of the original amount, they could live 20% to 30% longer. Converted to humans, this means an increase in lifespan of up to 20 years.

The same experimental results also occurred in fruit flies, which have a 60% genetic similarity with humans, and this theory can also be applied to mammals such as Labradors. Dr. Matthew Piper believes that aging is a life process. When organ functions deteriorate, many diseases will emerge one by one. Therefore, he assumes "aging" to be a disease, finds out the key genes that induce aging, and "treats" it.

During the experiment, Dr. Matthew Piper's research team was able to effectively extend lifespan through genetic modification and food intake control, but the effect of "eating less" unexpectedly exceeded everyone's imagination.
