"Flowers" are delicious! Mother's Day flower and bird cakes are eye-catching

Mother's Day is coming in May. Do you want to know what type of cake moms like best? Perhaps we can get a glimpse of this from the "2012 Mother's Day Creative Cake Competition - Flowers Show Good Taste" held today, the 25th at the Howard Plaza Hotel in Taipei. The theme of the competition was mother's flowers from different countries and Ovaltine. Uni-President Cake's "Charlotte, the Language of Flowers" with the image of the British Queen's crown won the Gold Award for Creative Shaped Cake. Yu Fu Pastry's "Bouquet Cake" was well-liked by the mothers on site for its appearance and taste, and won the Most Popular Award!

The "2012 Mother's Day Creative Cake Contest" kicked off with the first-ever 2-meter, hundreds-kilogram Taiwan Flower Island Cake. This Flower Island Cake is made up of jasmine flowers representing the mother's flower of Thailand, carnations from Western countries, daylilies from my country, roses from Vietnam and India, and lilies from Taiwan's indigenous peoples. It was jointly created by the five major domestic bakery shops - Fuli Bakery, Feifan Exquisite Cake, Shuncheng Cake, Juncheng Cake and France Cake, allowing hundreds of flowers to bloom on this treasure island of Taiwan. In the center of the island stands the Ovaltine Sun Cake, which is as dazzling and eye-catching as the sun shining on the earth!

This Mother's Day Creative Cake Competition is hosted by the Taipei City Bakery Association. The highly nutritious Ovaltine chocolate malt drink is the designated ingredient for the cake. The focus of the evaluation is on the creative application of Ovaltine and the marketability of the product. All contestants have put a lot of thought into creating Mother's Day cakes that are both visually appealing, taste-friendly, and olfactory.

Xie Weizhen, assistant professor of the Department of Food and Beverage Management at Taipei City University of Science and Technology, who served as the chief judge, said that the Uni-President cake "Flower Language Charlotte", which won the gold medal in this Mother's Day Cake Competition, was inspired by the hat worn by Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom, and used carnations and jasmine flowers made of chocolate to symbolize love for mothers. The outer layer is French macarons, and the cake filling cleverly incorporates Ovaltine into the cake, creating a delicate and exquisite taste, as well as exquisite color matching, which won unanimous favor from the judges and won the gold medal.

Yu Fu Pastry's "Bouquet Cake" is the No. 1 choice among the mothers who judged on-site because of its soft and pleasing appearance and the clever blend of Ovaltine, pudding and natural fruit fillings. It has a mild taste and meets health needs!

In addition, a dynamic competition, the "Master of Decorating Flowers", was also held at the event. Participating chefs had to freely decorate cream roses on a two-layer cake tower under the pressure of a 5-minute time limit, and each rose must have 10 petals. This competition tests whether each chef can squeeze out large quantities of beautiful cream roses, and also makes the entire event more interesting!
