What are the early symptoms of adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis is a common gynecological disease, but it is not unique to humans. Even animals may suffer from the disease. So, what are the early symptoms of adenomyosis?

In the past, adenomyosis mostly occurred in multiparous women over 40 years old. The early symptoms of adenomyosis mainly include abnormal menstruation, dysmenorrhea and lower abdominal pain, discomfort during sexual intercourse, and infertility.

1. Abnormal menstruation

The main symptoms are increased menstrual volume, prolonged menstrual period and a small amount of uterine bleeding. Abnormal menstruation may be related to anovulation of the ovaries, corpus luteum insufficiency or concurrent adenomyosis.

2. Dysmenorrhea and lower abdominal pain

Dysmenorrhea is secondary, that is, the pain gets worse each time, often occurs at the beginning of menstruation, and will last throughout the menstrual period. Most lower abdominal pain is located deep in the lower abdomen and rectal area.

3. Discomfort during sexual intercourse

The early symptoms of adenomyosis will also manifest during sexual intercourse, with deep pain during intercourse, which is often more obvious before menstruation.

4. Infertility

Adenomyosis is a type of endometriosis, and women with this disease are more likely to become infertile.

Adenomyosis: Gynecological examination shows that the uterus is often uniformly enlarged and spherical, and adenomyomas may appear as hard nodules. The uterus is generally no larger than 12 weeks of pregnancy. The uterus is tender near the menstrual period; during the menstrual period, the uterus is enlarged, softened, and tenderness is more obvious than usual; after the menstrual period, the uterus shrinks. The uterus is often adhered to the surrounding area, especially the rectum at the back, and has poor mobility. 15% to 40% of patients have endometriosis, and about half of the patients have uterine fibroids.
