Chinese medicine prescription for treating uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids are not easy to detect clinically, most of them have no special symptoms, and can only be found during pelvic examination. The tumor is usually no larger than the size of the uterine body in the third trimester of pregnancy. Clinically, they are divided into the following types.

TCM classification of uterine fibroids

1. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type: Symptoms include early menstruation or amenorrhea, prolonged menstruation, continuous spotting, or heavy bleeding, or dysmenorrhea, or increased leucorrhea, premenstrual breast or lower abdominal distension and pain, chest and flank discomfort, depression, and petechiae on the tongue.

2. Yin deficiency and liver hyperactivity type: Symptoms include heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, red menstrual color with blood clots, dizziness, palpitations, irritability, insomnia, back pain and yellow urine.

3. Qi and blood deficiency type: heavy menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual period, pale tongue with clear texture, fatigue, sallow or pale complexion, dizziness, palpitations, and thin and sugary stools.

4. Liver depression and Qi stagnation type, irregular menstruation, prolonged bleeding, frequent pain in the chest, flanks and lower abdomen, dizziness, headache, depression, irritability, insomnia, and indigestion.

5. Damp-heat descending type: heavy vaginal discharge, pain and distension in the lower abdomen, fever, and low back pain.

Traditional Chinese medicine prescription for uterine fibroids

Prescription 1

The raw materials are 15g raw astragalus, 10g each of whole angelica, raw poria, raw white peony root, Corydalis yanhusuo and Toosendan fruit.

For those with excessive dampness, add Chuan Huangbai, raw Coix seeds, Chinese yam, and Plantago seed; for those with hyperactivity of the liver, add chrysanthemum, Gardenia jasminoides, powdered moutan bark, and scorched gardenia; for those with palpitations and shortness of breath, add Pseudostellaria baicalensis, stir-fried jujube seeds, roasted licorice, magnetite, mother of pearl, and cinnamon twig.

Preparation and Usage: Boil the above medicines three times and then combine the liquid medicines. Take orally in the morning, noon and evening, 1 dose per day.

Suitable for the treatment of uterine fibroids.

Prescription 2

The raw materials are 12g of Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, 6g each of Chuanxiong, cinnamon bark, and fennel, 10g each of safflower, peach kernel, Corydalis yanhusuo, myrrh, raw pollen, and stir-fried aconite, 8g each of Trillium and Curcuma, 30g of raw Selaginella, and 15g of Leonurus japonicus.

Add or subtract: For those with more severe qi stagnation or in the premenstrual period, add Cyperus rotundus, Chuanlianzi, and Litchi kernel; for those with more severe blood stasis or during the menstrual period, add Leech, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Leonurus japonicus; in the recovery period or postmenstrual period, use Bazhen Decoction.

Preparation and Usage: Boil the above medicines three times and then combine the liquid medicines. Take orally in the morning, noon and evening, 1 dose per day. 1 month as a course of treatment.

Suitable for the treatment of uterine fibroids.
