Are women who are too fat more likely to suffer from vaginitis?

The occurrence of vaginitis is directly related to not paying attention to local hygiene, and it seems to have no direct causal relationship with obesity. However, many patients with vaginitis are indeed obese in clinical practice. What is the reason? Before explaining this phenomenon, we must introduce the self-cleaning function of the vagina.

The vaginal epithelium proliferates under the action of estrogen, and the cells contain sugar, which is decomposed into lactic acid under the action of vaginal lactobacilli to maintain the normal weak acid environment in the vagina and inhibit pathogens that can reproduce in an alkaline environment. If this normal weak acid environment is lost, vaginitis can easily occur.

Women are more likely to develop diabetes during menopause, and diabetes is closely related to obesity. According to statistics, the incidence of diabetes in obese people is four times that of non-obese people, and the incidence of diabetes increases with the degree of obesity. Women with diabetes are more likely to develop candidal vaginitis because the glycogen in the vaginal epithelial cells of diabetic patients exceeds the normal level, increasing the acidity of the vagina, promoting the reproduction of Candida albicans, inducing candidal vaginitis, and causing symptoms such as increased leucorrhea and vulvar itching.

Menopausal women have low immune function and are more susceptible to illness. Long-term use of broad-spectrum antibiotics will change the mutual inhibition relationship between vaginal microorganisms and easily induce candidal vaginitis.

It can be seen that there is a certain relationship between obesity and vaginitis in middle-aged women. Middle-aged women should control their food intake and strengthen exercise. This can not only help lose weight and prevent diabetes, but also reduce the occurrence of vaginitis.
