Is it normal to have an endometrial thickness of 13mm?

Whether an endometrial lining of 13 mm is normal depends on the stage of a woman's menstrual cycle. During a specific physiological cycle, such as the menstrual period, such thickness is normal; but during the menstrual period or other periods, it may indicate certain health problems.

During the secretory phase of menstruation, also known as the luteal phase, the endometrium thickens in preparation for conception. At this time, the endometrium can be 7-14mm thick, and a thickness of 13mm is completely normal at this stage.

If this thickness occurs during menstruation, the situation is different. During menstruation, the endometrium gradually sheds and its thickness usually becomes thinner, with a normal value of about 1-4mm. If the endometrial thickness is 13mm at this time, it may mean that the endometrium is too thick, which may be caused by hormonal disorders or endometrial hyperplasia.

For women after menopause, due to the significant decrease in estrogen and progesterone levels, the endometrium usually no longer thickens and its thickness should remain below 4mm. If it is thicker than this, it may indicate abnormal proliferation of the endometrium or other health problems.

The thickness of the endometrium is also affected by other factors, such as the levels of estrogen and progesterone. These hormonal changes can cause the endometrium to thicken and shed periodically. The thickness of the endometrium is not static, but changes with a woman's menstrual cycle.
