How long after abortion can I get an IUD?

Abortion refers to artificial abortion. The IUD can be inserted immediately after the abortion is completed, or it can be inserted one month later, 3-7 days after the menstrual period ends.

1. Insert the IUD immediately after the abortion: During the abortion, the endometrium in the uterine cavity has been completely cleared. If the patient does not have complications such as heavy bleeding or infection, the IUD can be inserted immediately after the abortion.

2. Insertion of IUD 1 month after artificial abortion and 3-7 days after menstruation: After artificial abortion, the patient's internal reproductive system is fully restored. 3-7 days after menstruation, the endometrium is in a relatively weak state. In this case, insertion of IUD will cause less damage to the endometrium and reduce the risk of vaginal bleeding.

Before the IUD is inserted, the patient needs to undergo a comprehensive physical examination by a professional doctor to rule out gynecological inflammatory diseases such as vaginitis to avoid retrograde infection. Sexual intercourse, bathing, swimming and other activities are prohibited within half a month after the IUD is inserted. The patient should rest and avoid overwork.
