What is pseudocervical erosion? Does pseudocervical erosion need treatment?

In life, many women do not realize that there is a difference between true and false cervical erosion. They lack scientific knowledge about cervical erosion and often go for treatment when they experience symptoms similar to those of real cervical erosion, which may even lead to overtreatment and unnecessary mental burden. In fact, there are differences between false cervical erosion and real cervical erosion in terms of symptoms and causes.

1. What is pseudocervical erosion?

Pseudo-cervical erosion is usually caused by abnormal hormone secretion in women. Generally speaking, as long as the hormone returns to normal, the symptoms of cervical erosion will disappear.

2. Causes of pseudocervical erosion

Generally speaking, women suffer from pseudocervical erosion mainly because of excessive estrogen in the body, which causes the columnar epithelium in the cervical canal to migrate outward to the surface of the cervix. The symptoms are very similar to mild erosion and are almost indistinguishable with the naked eye. There are many patients with pseudocervical erosion caused by estrogen stimulation in life, and they are more common in adolescent girls, pregnant women, and women who often take contraceptives because they have high estrogen levels in their bodies.

3. How to distinguish true from false cervical erosion

Pseudocervical erosion

Common cervical erosions are mostly red areas around the external cervical opening. During colposcopy, after applying 3% acetic acid on the surface of the red area, it can be seen that the red area has a "grape cluster" change, which is caused by columnar epithelial edema. If a biopsy is performed on the area, columnar epithelium can be seen on the surface under a microscope.

Therefore, if we strictly follow the pathological definition of erosion, this does not belong to erosion, so some people suggest calling it pseudo-erosion. Most of the cervical erosions seen in clinical work belong to this type.

True cervical erosion

The surface of the cervix is often covered with a lot of mucus or purulent secretions. These secretions stimulate and soak the squamous epithelium around the external os of the cervix for a long time. Coupled with the inflammatory infiltration of the deep tissues of the cervix, the squamous epithelium covering the surface of the cervix loses its vitality and falls off, forming ulcers. This is true erosion.

This erosion surface is quickly covered by the surrounding columnar epithelium, forming a granular, shiny red area, which is called pseudo-erosion. Most of the cervical erosions we find in our daily work are pseudo-erosions, while true erosion is only a short stage in the process of this disease, and its prognosis will be that the surface is covered by columnar epithelium and becomes pseudo-erosion.

4. Does pseudocervical erosion need treatment?

As long as the cause of inflammation is ruled out, there is no need to be too nervous or treat too much for pseudoerosion. Especially for pregnant women, due to physiological reasons, the cervix will be congested and edematous. Excessive treatment will cause adverse effects. As long as it does not affect delivery, it can be temporarily not treated. Wait until 9 months after delivery to do an examination and consider treatment.

5. Pseudocervical erosion should be checked regularly

Although pseudocervical erosion does not require much treatment, regular examinations are still necessary to prevent misdiagnosis. Women who take oral contraceptives for a long time can have an examination 3 months to 6 months after stopping the medication; adolescent girls can have an examination every 6 months; pregnant women can have an examination 3 months after giving birth.

Warm reminder: The occurrence of pseudocervical erosion will have a great impact on the lives of patients and friends, affect the health of the body and cause a certain degree of discomfort. Therefore, it is also necessary to pay attention to the causes of pseudocervical erosion, and do a good job of disease prevention according to the causes of the disease to avoid the occurrence and impact of the disease. For patients and friends, professional treatment should be carried out in time.
