What causes cervicitis? Do patients with cervicitis have symptoms of back pain?

Cervicitis is one of the common female reproductive system diseases and one of the most susceptible tissues to disease in the female reproductive system. Cervicitis refers to inflammation in the cervix, which can have a variety of clinical manifestations, such as back pain, backache, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and changes in the smell and shape of vaginal discharge. Regarding the main causes, symptoms and treatment of cervicitis, we invited Lin Fang, deputy chief physician of Zhuhai Branch of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to explain to us.

What causes cervicitis?

There are many causes of cervicitis, such as vaginitis, chlamydia and mycoplasma infection. Vaginitis can cause cervicitis, so when there is inflammation in the vagina, it should be treated in time; when infected with chlamydia and mycoplasma, it is recommended that both partners be treated together. Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor caused by human papillomavirus, while cervicitis is mostly caused by chlamydia and gonococci. Therefore, patients with cervicitis can be vaccinated with cervical cancer vaccine, but cervical cancer screening should be performed before the injection.

Do all patients with cervicitis have symptoms of lower back pain?

Patients with cervicitis do not necessarily have symptoms of low back pain. Common symptoms of cervicitis may usually be increased secretions, intermenstrual bleeding, and bleeding after sexual intercourse. In a small number of people, such as those with cervicitis caused by gonococcal infection, low back pain may be accompanied by urinary tract symptoms, and low back pain is not a common symptom.

Can cervicitis be completely cured?

There is no such thing as a "curable" cervicitis. As long as the cervix exists in the body, the infection of the cervix may recur. Patients can undergo a gynecological examination to diagnose chronic cervicitis. It is recommended that women with symptoms of increased vaginal discharge go to the hospital for examination and receive certain treatment according to the cause. Women who do not have sex generally do not suffer from cervicitis.

If a woman has abnormal vaginal discharge, accompanied by some distension and pain in the waist and abdomen, and may also have changes in the menstrual cycle, she needs to be alert to the risk of cervicitis. At this time, it is best for the patient to go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible and take active measures to fight inflammation. In addition, since cervicitis generally exists for a long time, active prevention after anti-inflammatory therapy is very important for the treatment of cervicitis.
