What is cervical erosion? Is cervical erosion a pathological change?

Cervical erosion is not necessarily a disease. According to current medical theory, cervical erosion is not a disease, but just a clinical sign, so women do not need to worry too much. However, if cervical erosion is found, it is necessary to check whether it is physiological or pathological. If it is pathological, it needs to be treated early.

In real life, many women are often told by doctors that they have cervical erosion when they undergo gynecological examinations, which causes great mental distress to women. They do not know what cervical erosion is. So, is cervical erosion a disease? Let us find out below!
Cervical erosion is an outdated medical concept. Today, with the development of medicine, the medical community has figured out that the cervical erosion seen with the naked eye is not the true erosion caused by epithelial loss and ulcers as called in pathology, so it is not a disease, but just a clinical sign. However, sometimes cervical precancerous lesions, or even early cervical cancer, can be observed with the naked eye and appear similar to cervical erosion. Therefore, special examination methods must be used to distinguish whether cervical erosion is a physiological change or a pathological change.
According to today's saying, cervical erosion should be called columnar epithelial migration, which is mainly due to the influence of hormone levels, causing the columnar epithelium to migrate to the external cervical opening, resulting in the appearance of cervical erosion. It can be not only a physiological change, but also a pathological change. Physiological changes and pathological changes are sometimes impossible to distinguish with the naked eye, and some special methods must be used, such as cytological and virological tests, to understand whether it is a pathological state.
In the past, cervical erosion was diagnosed as mild, moderate and severe. This view holds that the size of the disease area is the severity of the inflammation. Usually an area less than 13 is mild, 13-23 is moderate, and more than 23 is severe. If you understand the true mechanism of the "cervical erosion" mentioned above, it is not difficult to understand that it is actually the influence of estrogen that causes the columnar epithelium to have different degrees of eversion, which is actually a normal physiological phenomenon.
Women must pay attention to the fact that cervical erosion may be physiological or pathological. Therefore, it is recommended that if women find that they have cervical erosion, it is best to go to the hospital for a thorough examination. If it is pathological cervical erosion, it should be treated as soon as possible.
