Vulvar harassment makes women feel uneasy and brings great pain to their lives and work. Therefore, many women are curious about what causes vulvar itching and want to know why they get it.

The clinical manifestations of vulvar pruritus are clitoral enlargement and itchy discomfort of the labia minora. Some cases may affect the entire vulva and the area around the anus. In severe cases, the itching is unbearable and the patient cannot sit or lie still. It often worsens during menstruation or after eating spicy food. Examination of the vulva shows no skin lesions except scratches or redness and swelling. Long-term itching can cause ulceration, redness and swelling or secondary infection, and may present as lichenification when it becomes chronic.

Western medicine mainly uses symptomatic treatment for this disease. In addition to keeping the vulva clean and dry, and strictly prohibiting scratching and hot water washing, 30% boric acid solution or 0.02% furazolidone solution is often used for wet compresses, external application of Fuqing ointment, dexamethasone ointment, etc., and oral administration of multiple vitamins, sedatives or anti-allergic drugs.

This disease generally belongs to the category of "vulvar itch" and "vulvar itch" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is often caused by the downward flow of damp-heat in the liver meridian, which causes wind and dryness after long-term depression, and the combination of dampness and toxicity; or it is caused by liver and kidney deficiency, yin and blood deficiency, and wind after dryness. Treatment should be combined with the pathogenesis, or mainly focus on clearing away heat and detoxification, removing dampness and relieving itching; or nourishing the liver and kidney, nourishing blood, extinguishing wind and relieving itching; for patients with long-term disease, blood circulation and stasis should also be taken into account. Generally, external treatment is the main treatment, and internal and external treatment can improve the clinical efficacy.

Vulvar pruritus is a common gynecological disease. Once it occurs, it will make people feel uncomfortable and painful. Many women are restless due to vulvar pruritus and abnormal leucorrhea, which seriously affects their quality of life. Therefore, we should pay attention to the prevention of vulvar pruritus.
