How to treat functional uterine bleeding with Chinese medicine artificial cycle therapy

The artificial cycle therapy of traditional Chinese medicine uses the cycle of "tonifying the kidney and nourishing blood - promoting blood circulation and relieving fatigue - tonifying the kidney - promoting blood circulation and regulating menstruation" to regulate the period, quantity, color and quality of menstruation through traditional Chinese medicine. This method can be used to treat functional uterine bleeding.

Proliferative phase, i.e. days 4-11 of menstruation

During this period, the main focus is on nourishing yin and regulating qi and blood to promote the normal growth of the endometrium. Use follicle-stimulating soup: 15g each of Chinese yam and dodder seed, 12g each of angelica, Cistanche deserticola, Polygonum multiflorum, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Eclipta prostrata, and 9g of Ligustrum lucidum. Decoction in water, 1 dose per day. Millettia reticulata, white peony root, and Cyperus rotundus can be added to the prescription, 10g each, and Salvia miltiorrhiza 12g to nourish blood and regulate qi.

Ovulation period, i.e. day 12-16 of menstruation

The treatment at this stage is mainly to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis to promote egg discharge. Use ovulation soup: 15g of Angelica sinensis, 15g of Cnidium monnieri, 12g of Rehmannia glutinosa, 15g of Salvia miltiorrhiza, 15g of Lycium barbarum, 9g of Safflower, 9g of Cyperus rotundus, 9g of Red Peony Root, and 9g of Ze Lan. Decoction, 1 dose per day. For those with partial kidney yang deficiency, add 12g each of Epimedium and Curculigo to warm and nourish kidney yang. For those with lower abdominal pain, add 12g of Corydalis yanhusuo, 10g of Notopterygium wilfordii, and 10g of Litchi seed to promote qi, activate blood circulation and relieve pain.

Secretory phase, which is days 17-24 of menstruation

During this period, the method of balancing yin and yang and regulating qi and blood is adopted to promote the normal function of the corpus luteum. The luteal-promoting decoction is selected: 15g of Danshen, 15g of Cuscuta, 15g of Tortoise Shell, 12g of Lycium barbarum, 12g of Eclipta prostrata, 12g of Dipsacus asper, 12g of Cistanche deserticola, and 9g of Ligustrum lucidum. Decoction in water, 1 dose per day. For those with partial kidney yang deficiency, add 12g each of Epimedium, Curculigo, and Echeveria to replenish kidney yang; for those with partial kidney yin deficiency, add 15g each of Raw and Cooked Rehmannia and 12g of Cornus officinalis to nourish kidney yin.

Menstrual period, i.e. days 1-4 of menstruation

During this period, the method of promoting qi and blood circulation and regulating menstruation is adopted to promote smooth menstrual excretion. Use Huoxue Tiaojing Decoction: 6g each of Angelica sinensis and Cyperus rotundus, 9g each of Rehmannia glutinosa, Red Peony Root, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Ze Lan, Cnidium monnieri, and Poria cocos. Decoction in water, 1 dose per day. Add 10g of Citrus aurantium, 12g of Linderae strychnifolia, and 15g of Leonurus japonicus to the prescription to help the efficacy of the medicine. For those with a lot of blood clots, add 10g of Notopterygium wilfordii to promote blood circulation; for those with heavy bleeding, add 12g of Rubia cordifolia and 6g of Panax notoginseng powder to promote blood circulation and stop bleeding.
