What diseases should be differentiated from uterine fibroids

What diseases should be differentiated from uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in the female reproductive system. According to statistics, about 20% of women of childbearing age suffer from uterine fibroids. Because fibroids often have no or few symptoms, the clinical statistical incidence is far lower than the actual incidence, which brings certain difficulties to diagnosis. At the same time, it is necessary to distinguish from the following diseases during diagnosis:

1. Ovarian tumor

Ovarian tumors generally do not cause menstrual changes and can be identified by B-ultrasound. When identification is difficult, auxiliary examinations such as laparoscopy can be used to confirm the diagnosis.

2. Adenomyosis

Patients with this disease have a history of secondary and progressive dysmenorrhea. The uterus is often uniformly enlarged, but rarely exceeds the size of a 3-month pregnant uterus, and is hard in texture. There may also be symptoms such as increased menstrual flow. B-type ultrasound examination is helpful for differentiation, but sometimes adenomyosis and uterine fibroids can coexist.

3. Uterine hypertrophy

This disease mostly occurs in multiparous women. The enlargement of their uterus usually does not exceed the size of 2 months of pregnancy. The shape is regular, uniform, and without nodules. The uterine cavity morphology is normal. B-type ultrasound examination is helpful for diagnosis.

4. Pelvic inflammatory mass

Uterine adnexal inflammatory masses are closely adhered to the uterus, especially fallopian tube tuberculosis, which sometimes needs to be differentiated from uterine fibroids. Pelvic inflammatory masses often have a history of acute or subacute reproductive tract infection. Gynecological examinations often show bilateral masses, which are fixed and tender, and are softer than uterine fibroids. B-ultrasound examinations are helpful for differentiation.
