Contraindications for various abortion methods

Abortion is a last resort remedial measure for women who fail to obtain contraception. It includes medical abortion, vacuum aspiration, and curettage. The contraindications of various abortion methods mainly include the following:

1. Medical abortion

Contraindications to mifepristone: adrenal disease, diabetes and other endocrine diseases, liver and kidney dysfunction, history of skin itching during pregnancy, blood and thrombotic diseases, and tumors related to steroid hormones

Contraindications for the use of misoprostol: cardiovascular system diseases, glaucoma, gastrointestinal dysfunction, hypertension, asthma, epilepsy, anemia (hemoglobin lower than 95g/L).

Others: such as allergic constitution, pregnancy with an implant, ectopic pregnancy or the possibility of ectopic pregnancy, severe vomiting during pregnancy, long-term use of anti-tuberculosis, anti-epileptic, anti-depressant, anti-prostate drugs, etc.

2. Artificial abortion

Artificial abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy by surgical methods within 3 months of pregnancy, including vacuum aspiration and forceps curettage. The contraindications of the two procedures are the same, including: genital organ malformation and inflammation; the acute stage of various diseases, or severe systemic diseases that cannot tolerate surgery; and the body temperature is higher than 37.5℃ twice before the operation.

Women who need to have an abortion should pay attention to strictly follow the indications and contraindications to ensure a smooth medication process or surgical procedure, while also reducing the occurrence of related complications.
