What are the complications of uterine fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female genitalia. Relevant statistics show that about 20% of women of childbearing age may have uterine fibroids. Because the disease is often asymptomatic or the symptoms are not obvious, it is often ignored. It is also because the patient does not treat or treat it in time that some complications often occur, mainly including the following:

1. Infection and suppuration

Fibroid infection is mostly caused by torsion of the fibroid pedicle or acute endometritis, and hematogenous infection is relatively rare. The infection can sometimes be purulent, and abscesses can be seen in the fibroid tissue of a few patients. Among them, submucosal fibroids are most susceptible to infection, and often coexist with acute endometritis after abortion or in the puerperium. Curettage and other obstetric surgeries can also cause it.

2. Twist

Subserosal fibroids can twist at the pedicle, causing acute abdominal pain. If the twisting is severe and surgery is not performed in time or the pedicle cannot be twisted back on its own, the pedicle may be broken off and a free fibroid may be formed. At the same time, the twisted fibroids can also drive the entire uterus, causing axial torsion of the uterus.

3. Uterine fibroids combined with pregnancy

Pregnancy complicated by uterine fibroids will have certain impacts on pregnancy and delivery. Submucosal fibroids can affect the implantation of fertilized eggs and may also cause early miscarriage; when intramural fibroids are large, they may also cause miscarriage due to mechanical obstruction or deformation of the uterine cavity.

4. Uterine fibroids combined with uterine body cancer

The incidence of this situation is higher than that of uterine fibroids combined with cervical cancer. If menopausal patients with uterine fibroids experience persistent uterine bleeding, they should be alert to the occurrence of the above situation.
