Don't let anorexia develop into amenorrhea

Anorexia is a serious eating behavior disorder, self-compulsive anorexia and refusal to eat, accompanied by psychological disorders. It is common in young girls, and the cause is still unclear. Studies have shown that it is related to hypothalamic dysregulation caused by biological, social, and spiritual factors, such as blind weight loss, dieting, heartbreak, or physical or mental stimulation.

Such patients often show stubborn refusal to eat or anorexia, emaciation, weight loss, fear of cold, low body temperature, low blood pressure, fatigue, dry skin, and amenorrhea. The patient's parents often do not care enough about her, and she is introverted, worried, guilty, depressed, and taciturn.

For anorexia patients with amenorrhea, they should receive estrogen replacement therapy under the guidance of a gynecological endocrinologist, gradually restoring the normal ratio and metabolism of androgen and estrogen on the basis of increasing fat tissue. At the same time, they should receive psychological treatment to relieve psychological pressure. Among them, the care of family members is particularly important.

In addition, the following treatments should also be carried out simultaneously:

(1) Correct behavior, change the environment appropriately, slowly change old habits, and gradually increase diet, from small to large, so that the weight increases by 1 to 2 kg per week.

(2) Antidepressants can be used for treatment when necessary. Patients with severe malnutrition should actively adopt nutritional support plans and be hospitalized when necessary.

(3) Amenorrhea caused by anorexia not only harms the reproductive system, but also the health of the stomach. Therefore, in terms of diet, you should pay attention to eating more easily digestible foods, and make sure to have staple foods. Vegetables can be a combination of meat and vegetables, with vegetables as the main ingredient. If conditions permit, drink more porridge or soup. In terms of diet, avoid overeating and greasy foods, as this will increase the burden on the stomach and have the opposite effect.
