Abnormal leucorrhea, jelly-like and with a strange smell

Abnormal leucorrhea that is jelly-like and has an odor is usually related to vaginal infection or inflammation. You need to see a doctor promptly to identify the cause and receive treatment.

Abnormal leucorrhea is a common health problem for women. Jelly-like leucorrhea usually indicates that the secretion contains more mucus and may be accompanied by an odor. This condition is often related to an imbalance of vaginal flora, infection, or inflammation. Common causes include bacterial vaginitis, candidal vaginitis, or trichomoniasis. Bacterial vaginitis is usually caused by an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, and the leucorrhea is grayish white with a fishy smell; candidal vaginitis is mostly caused by infection with Candida albicans, and the leucorrhea is like tofu dregs and accompanied by itching; trichomoniasis is caused by infection with Trichomonas vaginalis, and the leucorrhea is yellow-green, foamy, and has a distinct odor. Diseases such as cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease may also cause abnormal leucorrhea.

For the treatment of abnormal leucorrhea, different measures need to be taken according to the specific cause. Bacterial vaginitis can be treated with antibiotics such as metronidazole and clindamycin, usually taken orally or vaginally; fungal vaginitis can be treated with antifungal drugs such as fluconazole and clotrimazole, common dosage forms include oral tablets, vaginal suppositories or creams; Trichomonas vaginitis requires systemic treatment with metronidazole or tinidazole. For cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease, a combination of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs may be required, and surgical treatment is required in severe cases. In daily life, keep the vulva clean and dry, avoid using irritating washes, choose cotton underwear and change them frequently. In terms of diet, eat more foods rich in probiotics such as yogurt, and avoid high-sugar diets to help maintain the balance of vaginal flora. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention in time to avoid delaying the condition.
