Losing weight not only makes you more beautiful, but also helps improve your memory

Shedding excess fat not only makes your body look more attractive and helps you stay healthy, but a recent Swedish study found that overweight women's memory-related parts of the brain become more active during the weight loss process, so losing weight can also help improve memory.

The British Daily Mail reported that other previous studies on obesity and memory have found that obese people have impaired "episodic memory". Experiments conducted by Dr. Andreas Pettersson of Ulmia University in Sweden found that if obese people can restore their healthy body shape by losing weight, not only can the damaged memory be repaired, but the memory areas of the brain can also be made more active, helping to enhance memory.

Brain memory becomes more active after weight loss

The experiment first tested the memory ability of overweight women by having them use a combination of faces and names displayed on a computer screen. They were then put on a six-month diet control plan, in which nine women were selected to eat according to a ratio of 30% protein, 30% carbohydrates, and 40% unsaturated fat, while the remaining subjects were required to eat according to a ratio of 15% protein, 55% carbohydrates, and 30% fat.

MRI was used to scan brain activity before and after the experiment. The results showed that after half a year of diet control, the subjects' BMI dropped from 32.1 to 29.2, and their average weight dropped from 188.9 pounds (85.7 kilograms) to 171.3 pounds (about 77.7 kilograms). It is worth noting that the scan results found that the memory area in the brain was significantly more active than before, and memory was significantly improved, indicating that weight loss has a positive effect on memory.
