Not paying attention while eating will make you fatter and increase your calorie intake by 50%

At home, parents always remind their children to concentrate on eating and not to watch TV or play while eating. The main purpose is to cultivate children's habit of concentrating on doing things. However, statistical research in the UK has found that not concentrating on eating or doing other things while eating will not only affect the amount of food eaten at the next meal, but also cause up to 50% more calories to be consumed.

Statistical studies have found that if you are not focused on eating or do other things while eating, the calories you eat can increase by 50%.

Robinson's research team from the University of Liverpool in the UK reviewed data from 24 research reports from 1997 to 2011, and pointed out in a recent article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that many related studies in the past have shown that a person's concentration when eating can affect the amount of calorie intake in the diet.

The researchers divided eating patterns into two groups: "attentive" and "distracted". The "attentive group" was defined as being able to clearly remember what they had eaten and finish a meal without distraction; while those in the "distracted group" were accustomed to doing other things while eating and did not care much about how much they ate, resulting in an average 10% higher calorie intake, which in turn affected their calorie intake by 25% more at the next meal, and up to 50% more calories than the average person.

Suzanne Higgs, co-author of the study, also said that based on statistics, developing the habit of paying attention to what you eat and being aware of what you eat, combined with dietary control (such as strengthening calorie counting), can effectively help control weight. However, experts also said that "mindful eating" can only help people whose weight is still within the normal range to avoid the risk of gaining weight. For those who are already obese, this method alone will not be enough to help them lose weight.
