What is a chocolate cyst?

Although chocolate cysts are benign, they can metastasize and recur like cancer, causing people excruciating pain. As a gynecological disease, chocolate cysts can cause women to have symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, infertility, discomfort during intercourse, and abnormal menstruation.

1. Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is the main symptom of endometriosis (hereinafter referred to as endometriosis). It is typically manifested as gradual onset of dysmenorrhea and progressive aggravation. The ectopic endometrium sheds and bleeds during menstruation, which will produce an inflammatory reaction, stimulate the peripheral nerves, and cause pain. The pain is mainly concentrated in the lower abdomen, and the degree of pain varies depending on the lesion, ranging from mild discomfort to pain, and even the desire to remove the uterus. Some patients will experience persistent lower abdominal pain and aggravated menstruation.

2. Make people infertile

If the internal heterosexual adhesion involves the fallopian tube, causing the fallopian tube to twist and become blocked, it will block the path for the egg and sperm to meet. If the ovaries are adhered, ovulation cannot occur, and chocolate cysts may also reduce ovarian function. Pelvic inflammatory factors and immune abnormalities can affect pregnancy.

3. It will make you uncomfortable during sex

Some ectopic lesions can cause adhesion and fixation of the uterus, colliding in the same chamber or causing the uterus to contract and rise, causing pain, which is often most obvious before menstruation.

4. Abnormal menstruation

When ectopic disease invades the ovaries, it destroys ovarian tissue, affects normal follicle growth and ovulation cycles, and causes menstrual changes.

5. Special symptoms

Ectopic endometrium can escape to any part of the body, and different symptoms will occur in different places. If it runs to the ureter, it will cause low back pain, hematuria, and hydronephrosis; if it runs to the cesarean section scar, there will be a lump that gradually increases in the scar and pain in the menstrual scar; if it runs to the lungs, bleeding from the mouth and nose may occur during menstruation.
