What syndromes may occur after abortion?

Abortion is a remedial measure after contraceptive failure. Currently, most abortion operations use negative pressure suction to suck the embryo out of the uterine cavity, which will inevitably cause discomfort or sequelae to the patient.

1. Abortion stress syndrome

Some patients have poor psychological endurance. During the abortion, uterine dilation, negative pressure suction, or curettage, they are overly nervous or have excessive local stimulation, which causes obvious nerve excitation reflexes, leading to coronary artery spasm, weakened myocardial contraction, reduced cardiac output, or heart rhythm disorder. After the operation, the patient is still highly nervous and has symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, shortness of breath, pale face, sweating, cold limbs, decreased blood pressure, and arrhythmia. In severe cases, fainting and convulsions may occur.

2. Abortion pain syndrome

During the abortion, the patient does not feel much pain due to anesthesia. After the anesthetic effect gradually fades, the patient may suddenly experience nausea, vomiting, syncope, crampy pain in the lower abdomen, and uterine enlargement with significant tenderness. This is mainly because the connection between the uterus and the placenta is suddenly interrupted during the operation, and the intrauterine bleeding is not cleared, which causes a considerable amount of prostaglandins to be released from the body into the blood circulation.

3. Weakness after abortion

Abortion itself is extremely harmful to the patient's body. Pregnant women with weak constitution or chronic diseases will experience backache, dizziness, tinnitus, weak legs, sweating, fatigue, sallow complexion, insomnia, dreaminess, increased leucorrhea and other debilitating symptoms after abortion. Patients can be given dietary therapy to nourish the liver and kidneys and replenish qi and blood to relieve the symptoms.
