5 common hazards of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyoma, are a relatively common and highly prevalent gynecological disease. Although uterine fibroids are benign tumors, they can also cause certain harm to the body and need to be taken seriously.

1. Free myoma

Subserosal uterine fibroids can twist at the pedicle, causing acute abdominal pain. If the patient cannot undergo surgery in time, the pedicle may be torn off, resulting in a free fibroid. The twisted fibroid can also pull the entire uterus, causing axial torsion of the uterus, which is extremely harmful.

2. Secondary anemia

Uterine fibroids can cause menstrual disorders and increased bleeding. Long-term conditions can cause secondary anemia, the main manifestations of which are pale complexion, weakness in the limbs, palpitations, etc., and can even trigger anemic heart disease.

3. Infection and suppuration

Uterine fibroids can cause pelvic congestion and infection, which is mostly caused by tumor pedicle torsion, while blood-borne infection is extremely rare. After infection, a few patients will form abscesses in the tumor tissue, while the rest will show purulent symptoms.

4. Cancer

Although uterine fibroids are benign tumors, they can also cause uterine cancer if left untreated for a long time, and the rate of malignant transformation is about 1%. Patients with rapidly growing fibroids or postmenopausal fibroids should be more vigilant and take medication or surgical treatment as soon as they are discovered.

5. Gynecological inflammation

Torsion of the pedicle of uterine fibroids can easily cause inflammation and infection. Bleeding from the fibroids can also cause pathogenic bacteria to invade other uterine organs, leading to gynecological inflammations such as adnexitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.
