Strong back compression fracture! Yoga Bound Angle Pose Careful Stretch

Do you feel that your muscles are not flexible enough? Do you want to learn yoga to stretch your muscles? Just be careful and avoid fractures caused by strong stretching! In Taichung, a yoga student was doing the bound angle pose when his instructor pressed his back too hard. The improper use of force caused a fracture in his left thigh bone, which had a serious impact on his life. The two parties went to court because they could not reach an agreement on a settlement.

In November last year, a 47-year-old yoga instructor named Chen in Taichung asked his students to do the "bound angle pose" softening exercise first in order to teach the "bow and arrow pose" yoga movement. That is, sit on the yoga mat with your buttocks, face each other, pull your feet as close to the inside of the body as possible, and lean forward to stretch the inner thigh muscles and hip joints.

But unexpectedly, when the 23-year-old female student named Gu, who was 158 cm tall and weighed only 46 kg, was doing the bound angle exercise, coach Chen was helping her adjust the posture. In order to make her left and right thighs closer to the ground, he used all his body strength to help press her back. He used too much force and the female student named Gu could not bear it. There was a "click" sound on the spot, and her left femur was fractured. Afterwards, the students took the case to court, and the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office then charged Ms. Chen with professional negligence and injury.

Everyone's physique and flexibility are different, so you should do yoga appropriately and warm up before exercise.

Stretching your muscles and doing yoga too quickly can increase your risk of injury

Chen Qiaoping, chief physician of the Rehabilitation Department of Dali Ren'ai Hospital, said that yoga is a very popular sport, but many people's concept of yoga is still limited to stretching muscles and bones. They are anxious to achieve the ideal posture, which can easily cause injuries and is not worth the effort. Moreover, incorrect yoga postures can also cause harm. If there is degeneration in the spine and the nerve foramina are narrow, inappropriate intensity will increase the pain in the nerve roots.

In fact, everyone's physique and flexibility are different. Bending over or turning the neck suddenly can easily cause serious injuries. When practicing yoga, the injured parts of the body are concentrated in the cervical spine, shoulders, knees, and waist. Usually, muscle strain and nerve compression lead to paralysis of the hands and feet, and even sprained bones and joints.

Doctor Chen Qiaoping reminds us that it is important to know when to stop doing yoga. For people with poor flexibility and the older age group, in addition to being careful about themselves, warming up before exercise is very important. If you are suffering from muscle ligament strain or intervertebral disc herniation, you should inform the teacher in advance. If you feel any discomfort during the process, you should stop first. It is recommended to see a doctor early for further examination and treatment.

People with high myopia should avoid head-down and foot-up movements when doing yoga

In addition to patients with spinal joint diseases, people with high myopia and long-term high intraocular pressure should also avoid "head down, feet up" movements when doing yoga, because blood flow and pressure will rush down to the head, severely compressing the optic nerve or causing retinal detachment.
